The Rock Canyon Approach
Our goal is to contribute to the growing culture of climate activism by aligning our actions and our voice with the conclusions of climate science.
We choose to:
Take action by neutralizing the carbon footprint associated with our roasting operations through key environmental partnerships (more below).
- Be vocal about the importance of global climate advocacy by supporting Protect Our Winters (POW) in Boulder, Colorado.
Our Leadership in Action:
In 2019, we took decisive action to neutralize the carbon footprint created by the Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions associated with our operation at HQ:
ACTION on SCOPE 1:
We’ve partnered with the Longmont, CO based Colorado Carbon Fund to counterbalance 100% of our fuel consumption emissions with Carbon Offsets.
ACTION on SCOPE 2:
We’ve partnered with Burlington, VT-based NativeEnergy to purchase 100% Green-E Certified renewable electricity through their Renewables Portfolio program
Protect Our Winters (POW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Founded by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones in 2007, POW turns passionate outdoor people into effective climate advocates.
POW leads a community of athletes, thought pioneers and forward-thinking business leaders to affect systemic political solutions to climate change.
Rock Canyon strives to amplify POWs collective voice in the fight against climate change.
NativeEnergy believes that a company's commitment to renewable energy should result in new renewable energy projects – high quality projects that benefit communities across North America.
It is, however, difficult for individual companies to have the energy demand to drive a new project by themselves.
By aggregating our demand for renewables with that of other companies, Rock Canyon plays a causal role in bringing new renewable energy projects online via NativeEnergy's Renewables Portfolio program.
Green-e Energy is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in North America with the mission of creating policy and market solutions to advance renewable energy in the United States and abroad.
Administered by the Center for Resource Solutions, the program provides independent, third-party certification to ensure that certified renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer-protection standards.
Rock Canyon’s Renewable Energy Certificates are audited and verified by the Green-e Marketplace program.
The Colorado Carbon Fund is a local non-profit whose primary mission is to provide the tools and funding necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Colorado.
The Colorado Carbon Fund works with farmers in Colorado to help them adopt regenerative agricultural practices that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Using food as a center point of society, it is an ideal lever to revive rural America, improve water quality, grow healthier chemical-free food, and mitigate climate change.
Rock Canyon invests in carbon credits generated by these farming practices right here in Colorado to offset our carbon footprint.
